...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Reedycja debiutanckiej płyty z 1999 roku w wykonaniu ścisłej czołówki brutalnego death metalu ze Słowacji. Nowa oprawa graficzna + jako bonus pierwsze i drugie demo! SANATORIUM, brutal death metalowy zespół z Żyliny na Słowacji, choć wydał swoje ostatnie studyjne nagranie w 2004 roku, wciąż pozostaje rozpoznawalny na światowej scenie. Zespół, aktywny szczególnie w latach 1999-2009, zagrał liczne koncerty po całej Europie. Zaliczyli również wiele europejskich tournee, m.in. z LIVIDITY, CENTINEX, dłuższe trasy z DISGORGE, INTERNAL SUFFERING, SOILS OF FATE czy ABYSMAL TORMENT. Ten już wyprzedany CD został wydany w nakładzie 3500 egzemplarzy i, poza terytoriami Czech i Słowacji, trafił do kolekcjonerów niemal we wszystkich zakątkach świata. ..::TRACK-LIST::.. Arrival Of The Forgotten Ones: 1. Throne Of The Undead 2. Necrologue Written In Forest 3. Race Of The Dimension Unknown 4. Diseased Awareness Of Reality 5. Cemetary Of Memories 6. Guardians Of Deceitful Dawn 7. Evolution Of Decay 8. Autumn Shadows 9. Red Moon 10. Minulosť Subculture (Demo): 11. River Of The Black Sun 12. Cold Of The Concrete Monstrosity 13. In My Eyes 14. ..::OPIS::.. Blending early 2000 brutal death with blackened sorceries and modern Death Metal approaches and playing it all with a grindcore sneer, Severed Headshop (feat. members from Carrion Vael and Maimed) have a unique, savage and bloodthirsty sound. Get ready, The Fuckening has begun! Severed Headshop from South Bend, Indiana formed in the summer of 2010 by drummer Justin Wallisch and Chris ‘Togy’ Bolka (who leaved in 2017) with the sole purpose of making intense and unrelenting death metal that still grooved. Over the years that followed they would bring in bassist Ian Dygulski and vocalist Joe Jacobs. The lineup has most recently been completed by guitarist and longtime friend Ryan Kuder who has added his own unique flair to the music. In 2018 the band was finally able to release their first demo entitled 'It’s About Fucking Time' that was recorded, mixed and mastered by themselves in the true DIY spirit that has always characterized the band. Severed Headshop has now recently completed the debut EP 'The Fuckening' that sees them distilling a decade of experience and fusing different sub-genres into 5 ferocious tracks. With plans for heavy touring and the promise of even more new material on the way, the future has never looked brighter for Severed Headshop! For fans of Skinless, Cattle Decapitation, early Decapitated and Psycroptic. ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Statutory Fate 03:06 2. Self Gorification 03:45 3. Soul Excavation 03:54 4. ..::OPIS::.. Stale ewoluując w otchłań szaleństwa, wleką słuchacza zadając mu mordercze cięcia i pchnięcia. Nowy materiał stanowi idealną mieszankę nieubłaganej dzikości, wyrafinowanych kompozycji, riffów i melodii dwóch gitar. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Każdy z instrumentów brzmi z osobna z charakterem, a w całokształcie owe piękno na swój pokręcony sposób wyłania ohydny łeb w jeszcze bardziej patologicznym grymasie zadowolenia. Chorobliwe melodie, ohydne zwolnienia, przepotężne partie perkusji, bulgot basu, a wszystko to by przenieść słuchacza w krainę mroku wypełnioną po brzegi klimatem gore. To, jak i burza innych pomysłów, zostały spakowane do jednego worka i podane nam w postaci sześciu utworów, trwających nieco ponad dwadzieścia minut. Wraz z wydaniem ‘De syv stadier af fordærv’, zespół powrócił też do bardziej bezpośrednich, chaotycznych, blastujących partii. Wrota Krypty - The Gates To The Crypt Danish Death Metal legends Undergang are showing no signs of slowing down, with a brand new EP featuring seven pieces of ugly rotten death coming soon via Me Saco Un Ojo Records and Dark Descent Records. The band's signature mix of neanderthalic drumming and stringy phlegm-like riffs is instantly recognizable to any Death Metal fan. Equally so is David’s signature vomit-snarled vocals, all of which immediately will grip you with the fist of festering decay from the earliest points. Although primal and disgusting as ever, Undergang have always had a penchant for including gloomy moments betwixt their rot churning disdain. This new material has plenty of those disgusting dynamics which throw a superb stench into the air with remorseless instrumental fury and equally unsavory vocals, taking everything that made the Death Metal of old great and plunging it furiously into the carcass of today like a rusted knife designed to open seeping sores and spray pus forth upon all within the vicinity. The pulverizing putrescence does not relent… From the slowest drudges to the grinding fury and all sonic sadism in between, Undergang’s newest offering is a viciously unpleasant and transfixing opus of odors most foul. Woefully brutal, most puny headbangers will simply die from the sheer weight of this thing if they try to lift it onto their turntable. Any remaining will be flattened by the brutal gut-opening session that they will be subjected to 20 minutes of. Although all of their albums contain nothing short of true magnificent monstrosities from start to end, the amount of diversity in this miniature tome of auditory violations is impeccable even by Undergang’s high standard. If you find yourself presented with this cacophony of rot, then be sure not to miss the opportunity to drown in the swampy sludge before you, it’s thrilling! If you can make it through all seven stages of depravity, then you must congratulate your own hardiness, then find yourself drawn back for more torture! So, all of the odious freaks out there, force-feed yourself this slab of sadism. UNDERGANG is a band that it is pointless to introduce and elaborate on them in the introduction. An established position in the Death Metal underground is one thing, but the excellent releases the band has been steadily putting out for over fifteen years is another. From the first promo cassette in 2009, to last year’s EP, it’s simply one great journey through a world of horror full of streams of blood, death in its nastiest faces and sound sickness. And it was supposed to be without an introduction and here we are – so let’s get to the contents of 'De syv stadier af fordærv’. The first track, the first sounds, and immediately we are knocked down by an incredibly powerful production. Each instrument sounds individually with character and as a whole these beauties in their own twisted way emerge a hideous head in an even more pathological grimace of satisfaction. The heaviness, but also the space of the tracks is an important matter of these compositions. The sound is selective, however, it has not been deprived of the fetor of death. The riffs are truly swampy, as if immersed in a pond filled with corpses with rotting flesh that falls off the bones and decomposes under the murky water. Sickening melodies, hideous slowdowns, surging drum parts, bubbling bass, all to transport the listener to a land of darkness filled to the brim with an atmosphere of gore. The arrangements are tight, polished and have a hell of a lot of passion, an element very recognizable to the Danes’ music. Definitely, despite the style in which UNDERGANG moves, you can hear the constant development here. The characteristic groove full of guts has remained to this day in the band’s music, but there have also been elements that serve to build mood, even tension in the listener before what is to come. This, as well as a storm of other ideas, were packed into one bag and given to us in the form of six tracks, lasting just over twenty minutes. With the release of 'De syv stadier af fordærv’, the band also returned to more direct, chaotic, blasting parts. If you listened to the last split with Spectral Voice released just prior to the EP in question, you may have noticed that UNDERGANG went into the realm of slower compositions that progressed possibly to the middle, medium speeds. On this release, the band lets off the brake pedal and unleashes at the right moments to dizzying tempos. There will also be quite a few d-beats, so that our soundtrack to abominations reaches its full potential plus the inspirations of the first and second Carcass albums are still present. And the sound of a swarm of flies that opens and closes the penultimate track is a great summary of the content of this material and highlights the image that decorates this release. So, that would be it. I don’t have to recommend it, for it is known that it is in a class of its own. Wrota Krypty - The Gates To The Crypt ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Død 02:53 2. ..::OPIS::.. 1. Død 02:53 2. ..::OPIS::.. Pierwsza płyta legendy szwedzkiego death metalu! Sweden, sweet Sweden… The breakthrough of the 80/90s was a real revolution in metal world. A hideous monster was born – Swedish death metal. From many albums and bands I would like to point is Desultory, underrated a bit, in the shadow of Entombed, Unleashed and Dismember for example. I don’t know why, maybe “Into Eternity” came too late comparatively to the albums of bands I mentioned above? Maybe Desultory’s attitude, maybe no-satanic lyrics, who the hell knows? After releasing several promising demo tapes, Desultory began collaboration with Metal Blade. “Into eternity” consists of five songs known from demo times and four ones written especially for it. The first album shows not only death but also some thrash metal influences. But don’t be afraid, these Swedes prepared pure death metal in the way it should to be! Believe me, the effect is just perfect! When you can hear the sound of music and Klas Morberg screams, you can relish great riffs of the title track (which is in fact the longest one), bass passages during slowing down and fine Stefan leads divided into two parts. Generally, Stefan Pöge did an excellent performance on this album. His guitar works/leads are really tuneful, memorable, it makes “Into Eternity” something special. After first killing introduction, “Depression” starts with rapid, furious opening with powerful drumming. Inside delicious blasts, Matti from Dismember on vocals (chorus) and great solo leads. The next song and again brutal/energetic fresh riffs with conspicuous bass guitar and slow down where you can admire Thomas drum rage! Genius! “The Chill Within”, after a calm introduction, it becomes a real tornado with great short Stefan leads (yes, again…). “Visions” opened by steady drums shimmers with excellent riffage/drumwork and fine lyrics coaptation to the music. Of course I don’t want to add words about solo leads… The next one is “Twisted Emotions”, fine introduction, (Pöge suprises once again creating beautiful solo), after few seconds it becomes pure death metal song with slowing down enriched by Stefan solowork. Yes… and now it’s time for “Forever Gone”… This one is a little bit different from the remainder. Some light keys on the start, slow leads and Klas screaming his words of wisdom… Amazing, outstanding opening of the killer track (probably the best?). You can hear a real band, four soldiers of pure metal which know what to do with their skills, minds and instruments! Fast, accurate song with crushing guitar solo ends with Klas screams “… no one can ease my sorrow!”. In turn “Passed Away” is a just pure blast in your face with some gore lyrics (the only one on this album) which ends suddenly. The last element of this masterpiece is “Asleep”. It doesn’t mean a time for forty winks he, he… Desultory attacks with energetic riffs, some twisted melodies bombing auditory centre. Here we have slow down, murderous double bass assault and seemingly chaotic Stefan’s lead. The entirety is successful by keyboard outro lasting few seconds… To put it all together – mixing excellent perfect riffs, bass/drums devastation and biting vocals, Desultory created something I define as a magnum opus of death metal genre. It sounds raw a bit, from the other side very muscular. A word ‘desultory’ means chaotic, untidy, planless, unmethodical. Here the situation is just inversely proportional to the band’s name. So this is obvious that by this review I would like to pay homage to Desultory, unique band with soul. The band which is a real interpretation of everything in metal music. So, my Masters, I want to go with You… into eternity!!! Tlacaxipehualiztli ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Into Eternity 5:59 2. Depression (Vocals Assisting - Matti Kärki) 4:12 3. Tears 4:19 4. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Te cechy wspólne to kozackie gitary i wokal. Całościowo jednak jest to zajebiste uderzenie z super refrenem: „Oh, I’m in the twilight world tonight…” Of Darksome Origin”: „Of darksome origin, bring life to the dead.” Masakra. „Blood – Colored” zaczyna się tak właśnie heavymetalowo z czystym wokalem, ale potem się rozkręca i znowu jest jazda: „The X-machines just wiped away all life. The blood – colored sky”. Już przedostatni „The Sinner And The Sadness” jest taki bardziej toporny, ale prawdziwym wynalazkiem jest dopiero zamykający całość „Song Of Sirens” z wręcz noiseową, gnuśną i walcowatą atmosferą. No i prawdopodobnie uczynił dyskografii Edge Of Sanity wiele dobrego! Do tego dawka muzyki jest w sam raz (45 minut), by wywołać pewien niedosyt. demo One of the best albums from Edge Of Sanity, behind which there is a rather strange and a bit complicated story. Well, during the recording of "Purgatory Afterglow" the band released an ep ("Until Eternity Ends") with material that they thought did not fit the style of "Purgatory...", and then, when the "right" songs were completed, they put together that...they broke the album down into two more eps. The first was to show the traditional death metal side of Edge Of Sanity ("Purgatory"), the second was to show their softer side ("Afterglow"). However, Boss from Black Mark Production did not want to hear about such a solution and - contrary to the original assumptions - forced the Swanö band to release it in "full" form. And he probably did a lot of good to the Edge Of Sanity discography! After all, releasing so many eps in such a short time even this 1994 would be perceived as artificial exploiting money, and the records themselves could be unjustly skipped. On the other side, the band actually went a little crazy here. "Purgatory..." beats the previous releases in terms of variety, reaches more styles, and at first it may even seem something incoherent and composed without order. Exactly, may even seen. The deeper into its content, the more sense it sees in it and the harder it's to imagine music without so many additions that finally found its way here. Besides, in style of EoS, everything that is death metal and far from radio friendly boredom in the foreground (and they did not achieve so much "sand" in guitars either earlier or later!). The talent for blending death metal sound with rock melodies and progression just exploded even more on this record than on "The Spectral Sorrows". An example here can be "Of Darksome Origin", "Elegy", "Silent", "Twilight" or "Velvet Dreams" similarly aggressive and extended beyond traditional patterns, and at the same time suitably hitty and without cheap melodies, but in fact the vast majority of tracklists. There are two pranks on "Purgatory Afterglow": "Black Tears", which is a stronger version of HIM (actually...before the debut of HIM itself!) and "Song Of Sirens" (exceptionally sung by guitarist Sami Nerberg), which is something on the shape of the mix of Pantera and Machine Head, and honestly, it's something unfortunately not very necessary and - despite the large variety of the disc - a track that does not match to the rest. Anyway, "Purgatory..." is a piece of excellent music; one that does not harm even small inaccuracies. The dose of combining and progression is even greater on it than on "The Spectral...", and at the same time no signs of softening on it are also not found. On "Purgatory Afterglow" the Swanö band simply extended the previous formula with new solutions, keeping their characteristic death metal style, but also the previous high level. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. No i prawdopodobnie uczynił dyskografii Edge Of Sanity wiele dobrego! ..::OPIS::.. This album was described as a "bastard mix of Carcass and Voivod". That is actually not far from the truth. This CD was my introduction to this band and I must say that I am intrigued at just how innovative this band is. A lot of bands I have heard lately have been more copy-cat versions of bands they claim to draw influences from, but Supuration know where to draw this line. From the progressive elements all the way to the death and even slight thrash elements, this band can take any mixture of these influences and make it work. I have not heard an album in this genre this innovative and original since Cynic's "Focus". To the typical metal fan, it may be hard to grasp the concept of what the band is going for here. However, if you have an open mind and are wanting something fresh and new and perhaps a little unusual then this just might be what you are looking for. Besides the aforementioned influences of Carcass and Voivod, which can be easily noticed, other influences such as ...And Oceans, Crematory, Aborym and Newer Samael can also be heard. Vocally, this album is somewhere between Carcass "Heartwork" and "Swansong" era with a little mixture of "Act Seven" and "Believe" era Crematory for a little added flavor. The vocal patterns used here really set the tunes off and blend very well with these fantastic metal orchestrations. The lyrical concepts are a tad abstract but that just adds to the aura of the tunes presented here. They definitely leave you thinking. As for the riffing and drumwork, they seem to use the traditional progressive death metal format with a touch of gothic and industrial genres just to make things that much more brutal and interesting. There might be others who may say that this doesn't fit the definition of brutal as compared to other bands but it's all in how you perceive the hard work put in to an album such as this as well as the delivery of such a masterpiece. You can tell from the first listen of this CD that these guys worked very hard in the construction of this metal gem. I want to urge everyone wanting to check out new bands or those wanting a breath of fresh air in the extreme metal world to definitely check this band and CD out. These guys are here to take this genre to the next level. Like I said earlier, this is my first introduction to the band so i need to backtrack and check out their back catalogue. Aside from that, you cannot create a CD of this magnitude and go unnoticed for very long. This will find a lot of time in my stereo and I will also be putting it on my MP3 player. The thick sound and production on top of everything else, make this a listening experience that you will be sure to remember for a long time to come. Akerthorpe First and foremost, if you're looking for something different in the realms of death metal, go check out Supuration. These guys have been around since 1989 and also developed a side project called S.U.P. that dealt in prog. This album is the third part of their cube saga called Cube 3 and even though it seems to lack the originality of the second part of the saga, Incubation, the new release makes up for the title with what lurks in the music itself. Progressive death metal assaults occur here with definite gravel vocals and a clean approach that reminds me of Enslaved, just with death metal instead of black metal (but give them time, seeing as they covered so much crap on Riitiir), and the whole thing comes off as refreshing and unique. There. I said it. Unique. These days, many bands try to be too unique and wind up sounding just completely odd altogether (not that I don't mind that), but hearing a group of guys that just make a subtle difference really comes off as something of a musical gift to my ears. The first thing you'll notice about Supuration is that the music isn't necessarily fast even when the drums blast. They also don't seem to be interested in bludgeoning and even if the drums are pounding in places like "The Delegation 5:32" where you will still hear a slight clean vocal interjection (The Disenthrall 2:20.). Yes, this is a different kind of death metal, so leave all of your expectations at the door. You might consider this odd, but I feel as if I might have to listen to this album one more time, even though I listened to it a few days prior during the listening process that I give each and every album I review. There's just so much going on within this music ("Consumate 6:09", for example) that I literally am having a hard time breaking it down in to a consumable package for words to convey. France has given us a lot of great musical exports with Gojira being one of the most well known, but I must inform you lovers of sweeps that these guys sound absolutely nothing like Gojira. This is certainly progressive death metal of a unique flair (I wouldn't even liken them to Opeth, in all honesty) that is not only interesting, but off-kilter in many aspects and incredibly listenable. The words "highly recommended" should certainly appear in 72" font, but I will instead leave you with that observation instead of actually doing what would come off as ridiculous. One other thing that I need to explain about this band is that Supuration are death metal. The music is certainly backed with all the grim and unwelcoming atmosphere that you might expect, but it certainly seems like the soundtrack to a really fucked up sci-fi film that I've never seen and certainly want to. There are metal magazines and other blogs that will probably say "yeah, it's okay", but I don't feel that some of these reviewers are literally listening to the music, just skimming through and making way for what's next on their plate (mainly noting Decibel) so they can go home and listen to the music that they want to listen to. I sometimes feel as if some of these reviewers consider reviewing discs to be a chore. Like "oh man, they sent me more albums. I really wanted to listen to the band x album" and my response to that is to check out the promos first. There's a big chance that you'll discover something in there that you will like better than the "band x" album, or the chance that band x's new album is as good as you would've liked. That happens. But as far as Surpuration goes, I'm giving it a perfect ten and here is the reason for that. It's different, it's original and not something you've heard over and over again by bands with the same sounds and different names. The execution on the album is perfect; it's death metal with a progressive nature that sounds 100% different from any other band out there doing progressive death metal. Most of them draw on Opeth. These guys do not. They were out before Opeth, if you can believe it. The melodies are catchy, intriguing, and a bit odd, which I find appealing, and the vocals meld well enough to come across as anything that Enslaved played clean and harsh with while still maintaining the death metal origins of the band. If these guys don't get known for this record here in the states, then I would consider myself completely incompetent in my reviewing abilities and the genre of metal doomed. This is what I wanted to hear in 2013. These guys brought it. Go check it out. Lordmaltreas ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Sinergy Awakes 5:42 2. Introversion 4:06 3. The Disenthrall 2:20 4. The Disenthrall 2:20 4. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Zwolenników skrajnego zezwierzęcenia prezentowanego na poprzednich płytach Anima Damnata mogę z miejsca uspokoić – Nefarious Seed Grows to Bring Forth Supremacy of the Beast to wciąż krwisty, bezkompromisowy i kruszący szkliwo death metal. Marszowa sekcja przeplatająca wściekłe, chłoszczące riffy w The Promethean Blood, opętańcze inkantacje w Uprising Lucifer, grobowe tempo inicjujące Your Life Is Cursed, bleciorowy sznyt Numinous Ascension into a Black Hole, gęste, smoliste zwolnienia w Blend into Satan, czy w końcu potępieńcze jęki zamykające Void of the Abyss to tylko wybrane elementy sprawiające, że choć clou muzyki Anima Damnata wciąż pozostaje zmasowana, niepozostawiająca jeńców death metalowa destrukcja, Nefarious Seed Grows to Bring Forth Supremacy of the Beast jawi się jako album bogatszy, bardziej zróżnicowany i dojrzalszy od poprzedniczek. Zbiór profanujących wszelkie świętości hymnów ku czci Rogatego jakim jest Nefarious Seed Grows to Bring Forth Supremacy of the Beast to doskonały, intensywny i porywający materiał. Wszystko co najgorsze nadchodzi wraz z odpaleniem „Nefarious Seed Grows To Bring Forth Supremacy Of The Beast” – trzeciej płyty Anima Damnata. Skóry, ćwieki, naboje, łańcuchy, kolce, maski gazowe, czaszka, rogi, stuła i Szatan. Wujas ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. ..::OPIS::.. Muzycznie album opiera się na charakterystycznym, 20-letnim, dynamicznym stylu of Hour of Penance i wzbogaca go o więcej chwytliwości i szczegółów technicznych, przeplatanych epickimi krajobrazami. Hour Of Penance "Devotion" is the ninth studio album from Italy's brutal tech-death masters HOUR OF PENANCE. "It has been almost five years since Misotheism [last studio album], but we are finally ready to unveil our new opus," comments the band. "Devotion is our anthem to the futility of war, with no light at the end of the tunnel. The main theme of the album is the misguided devotion which we, the people, give to our leaders, who mercilessly send us to our deaths under the pretense of democracy; while being guided only by imperialist ambitions and greed. The faceless crowd of the artwork stands in worship of these deformed statues of false deities. Musically, the album builds on the 20-year-old, fast-paced trademark style of Hour of Penance, and enhances it with more technicality and catchiness, interspersed with epic landscapes. We cannot wait to share these 10 songs with you all; stay tuned for more news and the release of the first single!" HOUR OF PENANCE is a blackened technical & brutal death metal outfit formed in 1999, widely considered as one of the most intense and talented representatives of the genre to emerge from Italy. The band needed three albums to surpass its local character and transform humble beginnings into international following, which triggered massive touring across Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and Asia, with heavyweights such as Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Devildriver, Deicide, Nile or Behemoth. From early output, through trademark installments - "The Vile Conception" (2008) & "Paradogma" (2010) - up to 2019's "Misotheism", HOUR OF PENANCE has been consistent in crafting their sonic identity through a complex, crushing and surgical brand of death metal. Whilst tailored for hyper speeds and untamed brutality, the group doesn't shy away from perceptive social metaphors in their dark imaginary and lyrics. The new album "Devotion" features long-standing members Giulio Moschini (guitars), Paolo Pieri (vocals & guitars) and Marco Mastrobuono (bass), alongside new drummer, Giacomo Torti. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Drugi pełny album Feto In Fetus. Condemned To The Torture, druga płyta Feto In Fetus, uzmysłowiła mi, jaka bieda panuje obecnie na grind core’owej scenie. Maybe it was something you idly promised to your best friend in a tree house when you were kids—“I swear John, I won’t say a word. Upon pain of death!” Or maybe it was more serious—a vow solemnly sworn to take a secret to the deepest of graves. No matter how you’ve used it, be honest with yourself, have you ever really thought about what that pain might be? If you haven’t, I can’t say I blame you: it’s a gruesome and unpleasant topic. However, Feto in Fetus explore it in great detail with their latest release, Condemned to the Torture. These slamming, hard-hitting Polish juggernauts use lacerating riffs to tear flesh from bone and pummeling percussion to turn bone to dust, creating an experience which will drown the listener in agony, making them suffer until their very last breath. It’s easy to look at Condemned to the Torture’s length and the short track lengths and write Feto in Fetus off as “just another grindcore” act—but this simply isn’t the truth. Condemned to the Torture is a crushing, dynamic combination of slamming, skin-ripping grind and heavy, brooding deathcore which soars above the efforts of its peers for several reasons—one of these being the stunning fretwork. “Death and Rebirth” takes a break from errant, grind-esque shredding and noodling to attack the listener with a grimy, guttural groove that completely catches the listener off-guard. Likewise, the outro track is an ambient, ethereal composition that laces serene fretwork with samples and pulsing, ebbing percussion to create an immersive, dream-like experience. In between either extreme, Feto in Fetus attack the listener with an entire arsenal of gut wrenching, city leveling riffs which cover razor-sharp and shredding (“Countless Victims,” for example) and brooding dissonance (“Source of Evil” ties this together with rampant grooves perfectly). The limitless amount of frantic, yet intriguing fretwork keeps this album far from being “just another –core” release. Beneath the layers of lacerating licks and furiously-fretted riffs, however, there is something else—something violent and looming. While the guitar tears sinister, gaping lesions in the listener’s skin and sanity, the percussion incessantly hammers away, wearing once-strong bone into nothing but dust. The drumming throughout Condemned to the Torture is nothing short of exceptional, and serves as the album’s backbone—a backbone sturdier than that of Atlas himself. “Countless Victims” and “Source of Evil” are perhaps the two best examples of Feto in Fetus’ percussive brilliance, with a wide array of catchy, meaty beats, drop-of-a-dime signature changes and speedy fills, the drums are always at the perfect pace to keep the album flowing along smoothly—a pace which is determined by the erratic guitars and the riffs they provide. For another stunning example of this instrumental syncope, we can turn again to the outro track. The guitar provides a whispy, intangible background while the drums broodingly pound away, giving the listener a sturdy, steady beat to lull them into complacency. True enough—the percussion and the guitar alike give rise to two stunning examples of how Feto in Fetus far surpass the likes of their piers, it is how these elements work together to serve as a backdrop for the visceral, intense vocals which makes Condemned to the Torture a true masterpiece. Above all the din of the drums and the phenomenal fret work, there are the vocals—the “make or break” element to any –core band. Where Feto in Fetus could have easily resigned themselves to castigation, or mediocrity, they instead rose above with one of the most varied vocal performances since Infant Annihilator’s The Palpable Leprosy of Pollution. There isn’t one track which showcases the vocals exceptionally well—rather, almost every song hits the entire range of extreme vocal styles one would expect to see on a deathcore release. Screeching, out-of-sight screams, unintelligible brees and gutturals and of course, a bitter, mid-range yell. All of these vocal styles paint a picture of pain and disgust overtop a wonderfully intricate instrumental canvas which provides one cohesive image for the listener: pain until their last breath. “I don’t need to worry,” you think to yourself, “death is a long way off.” Well, with Feto in Fetus’ full length, Condemned to the Torture, death might be a mere 45 minutes away. Indeed, Condemned to the Torture is a violent, misanthropic lesson in death—and every ounce of pain that could potentially come with it. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. “I don’t need to worry,” you think to yourself, “death is a long way off.” Well, with Feto in Fetus’ full length, Condemned to the Torture, death might be a mere 45 minutes away. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
Cudowna death metalowa podróż!!! FA ..::OPIS::.. The Spectral Sorrows, będący trzecim albumem nieistniejącego już Edge Of Sanity, jest tworem powstałym w najlepszym okresie dla szwedzkiego death metalu. Właśnie takie płyty przynosiły chwałę naszym sąsiadom zza Bałtyku. Ten album jest w moim przekonaniu najlepszym osiągnięciem Edge Of Sanity. Ten utwór to old schoolowy rock&roll odśpiewany „czystym” głosem Dana Swano. Lecz to nie ostatnia niespodzianka, bo tuż przed metą jest wręcz core’owy „Feedin’ The Charlatan”. Koniec The Spectral Sorrows to fortepianowa „Serenada Dla Zmarłych”: spokojna, smutna i chłodna jak nieboszczyk. The Spectral Sorrows, to trzecie pełnometrażowe wydawnictwo zespołu i absolutnie przełomowe. Muzyka często zwalnia, dając słuchaczowi odetchnąć, by za chwilę znowu przywalić ostrą deathmetalową jazdą. W ten sposób mijają pierwsze cztery kawałki i następuje zmiana klimatu. Mamy tu bowiem "Blood Of My Enemies", cover zespołu Manowar. Fajnie zagrany, ostro i podniośle, a przede wszystkim pięknie zaśpiewany. Bardzo udany przerywnik. Dalej autorzy znów serwują nam trzy piosenki w swoim stylu i dochodzimy do kolejnej niespodzianki. "Sacrificed" to heavymetalowa pieśń, podobna jedynie do wspomnianego coveru Manowar. "Waiting To Die" i "Feedin’ The Charlatan" to dwa największe hiciory. Dwa pierdolnięcia, krótkie ale zabójcze. Totalna jazda. Mówią o człowieku samotnym, wystraszonym i zagubionym. Ech, to se ne wrati... Wujas I feel Dan Swano is hard done by. For all of the brilliant solo work he's done, for all of his work with Bloodbath, Edge of Sanity and even his latest project Witherscape, he somehow escapes the recognition that he truly deserves, as one of the greatest driving creative forces in progressive metal. Hell, he's probably lesser known than most of his contemporaries in Bloodbath. Unfortunately, Edge of Sanity appear to have suffered from the same fate as their frontman, despite having put out three majestic albums in 'Crimson', 'Purgatory Afterglow' and 'The Spectral Sorrows', the last of which truly is Dan Swano's Magnum Opus. This is an album of contrasts. As early as the opening title track and it's successor, the listener is exposed to crushing overdriven insanity with pounding off beat drumming and roaring, abrasive vocals - and then is caressed by beautiful mellow sections displaying expertly twinned lead harmonies punctuated by atmosphere-providing keyboards. While slower, these mellow sections sound no less evil than their faster counterparts, a sound consistent throughout the album; if I had to choose a word to describe the general feeling that this album elicits, it would be insanity. A perfect example of this might be the chorus of 'Livin' Hell', a sonic madhouse of tremolo picking and blast beating with backing vocals akin to cries echoing through the halls of a lunatic asylum. But guess what? Even during this mental song, the pace is dropped, harmonies materialize and the keyboards come further forward in the production, resulting in a slow section that combines both hopeless minor sections, and even an uplifting, major riff. More examples? Skip one song ahead, to 'Lost'. The verses alternate between sadness and anger, emotions that suggest that a jazzy acoustic break might be out of place; then it happens, at 1.19. These are just a few examples of many, as almost every track on this album displays these wonderful contrasts while staying consistent to the general sound and theme of the album (the most notable other than the examples given being 'Jesus Cries' and 'Across the Fields of Forever'). Dan Swano's vocals are excellent throughout this album, mostly in the form of his rich, deep growl that still packs enough punch to exaggerate the insane feel to the album. There are moments on this album when his growls sound immensely powerful, such as the slower chugging sections of 'Livin' Hell' and 'Waiting to Die'. These are slightly offset by the much weaker vocals of Andreas Axelsson, who when contributing more than just backing vocals sounds rubbish, resulting in 'Feeding the Charlatan' probably being the weakest song on the album. Swano also uses clean vocals on this album, on 'Sacrificed' and the Manowar cover 'Blood of my Enemies'. His clean vocals sound, well, like a clean version of his harsh vocals - rich and deep, with a slight rough edge. I feel that Edge of Sanity did 'Blood of my Enemies' justice in this cover. Swano really excels during the chorus as he strains for slightly higher notes. Spoken vocals are also used during the verse of 'Across the Fields of Forever', which kind of make me feel like he's telling a heroic, yet saddening tale, akin to one of Homer's epics. This works brilliantly, as 'Across the Fields of Forever' is one of the best tracks on the album, combining acoustic guitar, twin overdriven guitars and spoken vocals, held together by an awesome snare beat out of Benny Larsson during the verses, and a simple but epic chorus. Another song that deserves special mention is 'Jesus Cries'. Not only is the title of the song a tribute to Swano's lyrical dexterity, the number of musical styles used in this song is astounding. From the opening harmonies, to the progressive/death metal bulk of the song, to the almost pop - rock riff beginning at 3.20, all seamlessly woven together, finished by the disturbing screams of Jesus's crucifixion. This is another of the stand out songs on this album. The guitars on this album play an almost solely rhythmic role; there is very little soloing or guitar trickery used throughout. However, a wide range of techniques are used in the riffing, from tremolo picking to huge palm muted sections that challenge the listener not to turn the volume up to max and break things. For all modern metal bands - if you want an idea of how to write a 'breakdown' that you can use in your songs, see 2.19 of 'Waiting to Die'. This is the exact reason why we don't start on our lowest string - so we have something to go down to. The tremolo sections are no less notable - the riffing in 'Dark Day', 'Livin' Hell' and 'The Masque' in particular is exquisite. There are also many simple chord progressions used in the chorus of songs, which contrasts with the far more technical riffing of the verses. Finally, in the slower sections found on most of the songs in this album, twin harmonies are used, beautifully written and executed and in perfect balance with the keyboards, which take a back seat during this album. Furthermore, Benny Larsson does a great job on drums. There's one technique he uses which I particularly love, which can be found at 3.01 of 'Across the Field of Forever' and during the verses of 'Waiting to Die', where he couples the hi-hat and the crash, making a change from the double bass porn heard in so many death metal bands. He almost makes good use of blast bleats, generally over tremolo sections, adding to the mad feeling of the album, but they aren't overused. I feel that the general use and sound of the drums on this album are very passive - they act as a glue holding the songs together. The snare is tight, and is very changeable throughout this album. It sounds great during 'Lost', but completely different during 'Dark Day', during which it changes sound every hit. I can see how this may annoy some listeners, but I rather like the raw sound that it brings to the album. In conclusion, this is a fantastic album that is vastly under-appreciated. There is very little wrong with it, bar the poor backing vocals, and I would truly recommend giving it a chance - you might just enjoy it as much as I did. TheAntarctic ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. 1.
